The Marche-based winery Garofoli, in Castelfidardo (in the province of Ancona), has really deep roots, dating back to the 19th century, since already around 1870 Antonio Garofoli was responsible for producing and selling wines in those areas. The real patriarch of this winery, however, is his son Gioacchino who, in 1901, expanded and reorganized his father’s business, making it merge into the Gioacchino Garofoli winery. Meursault Clos de la Barre 2012, Domaine des Comtes Lafon
In order to establish the date of birth of the Domaine des Comtes Lafon it is necessary to go back, to 22 January 1894, when an administrative accountant of the south-west of France, Jules Joseph Barthélémy Lafon, married the daughter of a family of Meursault wine merchants, Marie Bloch. Marie inherited some vineyards in that area of the Côte de Beaune, while Jules was engaged in his career as a state administrator, culminating in the 1920s with his election as mayor of Meursault. Malvasia 2020, Raccaro
The great variety of soils, of microclimates and also of the human microcosms that characterize the viticultural world of Friuli-Venezia Giulia has such a heterogeneity to render impossible any form of comparison between them. If, however, it would be out of place to try to put on the same level, for example, Colli Orientali del Friuli, Collio Goriziano and Carso, this does not mean that, in each of these areas, there are real enclaves of excellence that a wine enthusiast has learned to love, bottle after bottle, over time. Pinot Gris Rotenberg 2017, Domaine Zind-Humbrecht
Talking about Alsatian viticulture without mentioning Zind-Humbrecht is a rather complicated speculative exercise, since it is the winery that, perhaps most of all, has contributed to the development of this region. The Domaine was born in 1959 from the union of the lands of the Humbrecht and the Zind families, two dynasties that for centuries cultivated the vine in Gueberschwihr (Humbrecht) and Wintzenheim (Zind), in Alsace, united by the marriage between Léonard Humbrecht and Geneviève Zind. Rujno 2003, Gravner
When we talk about Josko (Francesco) Gravner we tend to summarize the work of this man by associating him with the famous aging containers he has used for almost 20 years: the Georgian amphorae (the qvevri). To say the truth, his story is much more fascinating and also much longer since his winery was born long before him, in 1901, when his family bought a house and 2.5 hectares of vineyard in Oslavia, in the Collio Goriziano, on the border with Slovenia. Ariento 2018, Massa Vecchia
We are in Massa Marittima, in the province of Grosseto, about twenty kilometers from the Tyrrhenian Sea, in the upper Maremma Toscana, in an area characterized by metalliferous hills; here, in 1985, Fabrizio Niccolaini and his wife Patrizia Bartolini founded the farm Massa Vecchia. While remaining in the family, the management of the company passed, from 2009 to 2018, into the hands of Patrizia’s daughter, Francesca Sfrondini, who manages it in partnership with Daniel and Ines Wattenhofer, Thomas Frischknecht and Rocco Delli Colli. Metodo Classico Pas Dosé Cinque, Marco Buvoli-Opificio del Pinot Nero
The wines produced by Marco Buvoli, in Gambugliano, in a magnificent hilly enclave, 10 kilometres northwest of Vicenza, are, since about fifteen years, one of the most prestigious expressions of sparkling italian Pinot Noir. Marco, on the other hand, is the son of Nevio Buvoli, one of the first Italian sommelier, who trained him to recognize the difference between a mediocre wine, a simply good one and an excellent one. Essentija 2015, Pala
Viticulture is an activity known to the Sardinian population since about 5000 years, and the special relationship created on this island, over time, between man and wine is so deep that it can be compared only with that in the Caucasus region. Even if we wanted to consider only modern times, those who had the opportunity to visit Sardinia in the early ‘900 would have been struck by the impressive quantity of wine producers, even for family use only. Lorano 2014, Maria Pia Castelli
Although the Maria Pia Castelli winery was founded only in 1999, in this short period of time it has already managed to become one of the reference producers of the Marche region. Founded by Erasmo Castelli, father of Maria Pia, the company boasts an extension of about eight hectares located at 200 meters above sea level on the southeast ridge of the hill of Monte Urano, in the province of Fermo.
