Gulfi is a winery founded in the homonymous locality of Chiaramonte Gulfi, in the south-western quadrant of the Iblei Mountains, in the province of Ragusa, by Vito Catania, an entrepreneur of Sicilian origins transplanted to Milan who, in 1996, decided to return to his homeland, to take over the wine tradition that his family had developed over three generations.
The winery management has always been inspired by the productive philosophy of Salvo Foti, one of the most authoritative voices of Sicilian enology, whose collaboration has helped to create a virtuous development system that did not take long to have its first effects. Costa d’Amalfi Rosso Riserva Furore 2016, Marisa Cuomo
Sixty kilometres south of Naples, in Campania, stands out on the sea the Furore fjord, a few kilometres from Amalfi, an area of wild beauty portrayed, already in the 18th century, in the watercolours of the painters of the time, which never failed to include in their works a reference to the famous terraced vineyards, real strips of land torn from the sea with difficulty. It was in this strip of land, in 1942, that the Gran Furor Divina Costiera brand was founded, with the intention of officially marketing the wine products of those lands. Mustazzo 2016, Sella e Mosca
In 1899 engineer Erminio Sella and lawyer Edgardo Mosca departed from Piedmont towards the land of Sardinia in order to reclaim a vast territory in the locality i Piani, near Alghero, in the province of Sassari, and transform it from pasture to vineyard. Since then those lands have made the history of Sardinian viticulture and, although the property has passed to the Campari Group (in 2002) and, later, to the Moretti family (since 2016), the search for quality has never failed. Sacrisassi Bianco 2018, Le Due Terre
In that strip of land enclosed by the DOC Colli Orientali del Friuli, just one kilometre south of Prepotto and five kilometers east of the border with Slovenia, stands the winery Le Due Terre. This is a reality born, in 1984, from the common vision of Flavio Basilicata and his wife Silvana Forte who, after years of work at other wineries in the area, decided to rent the first two hectares of land and devote themselves to the production of their wines. Röttgen Grosse Lage GG 2019, Heymann-Löwenstein
The Löwenstein family has a close relationship with wine production in the Winningen area, in the northernmost part of the Moselle, for about 500 years, and the winery Heymann-Löwenstein, founded in 1980, is simply the last link in this unbroken chain of 14 winegrowers generations. Although international critics have unanimously recognized, in the production of this winery, one of the most significant examples of German Riesling “Nouvelle Vague”, the air you breathe visiting the cellar or talking to the owners has an exquisitely archaic flavor. Château Pontet-Canet 2015
As with almost all the more famous Château de Bordeaux, even for Pontet-Canet the story begins back in time, in the middle of the 18th century, when a French high magistrate, Jean-François de Pontet, buys some plots north of the village of Pauillac. To this original nucleus, in 1757, is added an entire property in the area of Canet, from whose name, associated with that of the owner, was officially born Château Pontet-Canet. Franciacorta Extra Brut Comarì del Salem 2012, Azienda Agricola Uberti
The area in the province of Brescia, south of Iseo Lake, framed by its morainic hills, was known for the production of wine already at the time of Plinio the Elder and Virgil and, wanting to go even further back in time, the excavations have brought to light accumulations of grape pips dating back to prehistoric times. In that area, called Franciacorta and elevated to DOC in 1967 and DOCG in 1990, there is a family, that of the Uberti, who had begun to produce wines already in 1793, resulting in fact one of the oldest of the denomination tout court.
