The history of Château Sociando-Mallet has its roots back in time, until the beginning of the seventeenth century, judging by the fact that it is possible to find official documents that attribute those lands to an aristocrat of Basque origin who was Sociondo’s surnamed. Over time Sociondo became Sossiondo and then Sociando, until 1831 when, after numerous changes of hands, the owner Marie-Elisabeth Alaret joined the name of the property to her grandfather one, the sea captain Achille Mallet, giving definitive origin to the Château Sociando-Mallet. The history of Mamete Prevostini winery begins in Mese, a small village in Valchiavenna in the province of Sondrio, 15 kilometers north of Lago di Como, in 1928, with the creation of an artisan company dedicated to the production of fruit and vegetables, wine and sausages. The history of the Domaine Gros Frère et Soeur has its roots in 1830 when their ancestor, Alphonse Gros, after his marriage to Julie Latour, partly bought, and partly inherited, the first vineyards in Vosne Romanée. This estate, known as Domaine Louis Gros, remained unchanged until 1963 when, on Louis’ death, it was divided between his sons, with Colette and Gustave joining to create a unique project with the iconic name of Domaine Gros Frère et Soeur. There are some occasions when it is problematic to tell a winery without falling into the obvious that, inevitably, brings a fame of the caliber of the one that, with good reason, can boast of Fontodi.
