Capannelle winery was born from an idea of the Roman entrepreneur Raffaele Rossetti who, in 1974, bought an old seventeenth-century farmhouse in the heart of Chianti Classico, in Gaiole, and 10 and a half hectares of vineyard. Rossetti’s grandeur soon leads to the implementation of another 3.5 hectares of vine and a powerful restructuring of the winery, with a hospitality project exremely luxury-oriented. In 1997 J.B.Sherwood, a well-known entrepreneur of high quality hotels, bought the company, continuing in the triple direction of the acquisition of new land, the positioning in the premium segment of its wines and its vocation for luxury hospitality.
Since 1984 the oenological department is supervised by Simone Monciatti who signs iconic winse as “50&50” (1988) and “Solare” (1990), the latter as a result of the exclusive collaboration with Enoteca Pinchiorri (it will be extended marketing only in 1996). The latest addition to the estate is this Chianti Classico Gran Selezione which, produced in just 4000 units, represents the company highest expression of Chianti Classico: a 100% Sangiovese, obtained from vineyards with low yields, aged in conical vats, of 13-30 hl Slavonian oak, for at least 12 months and in glass for at least another two years.
This 2013 lively and intense ruby red vintage smells of pomegranate, black cherry, blood orange, laurel, lavender, young tobacco and blood/ferrous hints. The mouthfeel is fresh with generous yet elegant tannins, textured and balsamic with a blood comeback and a savory/sour long finish.
