Hartmann Donà has in the past linked his fame to Terlano winery, being its winemaker from 1994 until 2002 and bringing to fame wines such as Sauvignon Quarz or Terlaner Nova Domus. His dream however came true only in 2000 when he created his own winery to express, in a pure and unmediated way, his productive philosophy made of respect for the ecosystem and biodiversity of the vineyards and of a respectful and artisanal attention to the grapes in the cellar.
The latest Hartmann creation is the Chardonnay Donà d’Or, a wine already in his mind since the cellar foundation, able to “photograph” the terroir of origin: 3 vineyards between Cortaccia (350mt above sea level) and Merano (450-650mt above sea level) with soils respectively rich in granite, porphyry and calcareous clay. The bunches, coming from old vines, are manually harvested in full ripeness, before being sent to the cellar where, after a soft pressing and without maceration, they spontaneously ferment in used tonneaux, without temperature control. The must then completes the malolactic fermentation and remains on its yeasts, always in tonneaux, for 4 years, before being bottled and to spend another 3 years of refinement.
This 2010 intense golden vintage smells of mango, papaya, pineapple and ripe yellow peach, acacia and chamomile flowers, Normandy butter, nuts and toffee. In the mouth the malolactic makes the wine very round with calls, also retro-olfactory, to Normandy butter; nevertheless the drink is impulsive, also thanks to a fresh, savory and balsamic component (really well balanced) and to an interminable finish.
