Between the wines produced by Castellare, this I Sodi di San Niccolò plays a leading role since it’s their “signature-wine”. Its name comes from the fusion between the vineyard name (San Niccolò) and the tuscan name for the soils hard and stiff to work (Sodi). This wine is the result of a cooperation between the winery owners, Milano and Firenze University, and San Michele all’Adige Institut which, since before 1980, worked jointly to find the best clones of Sangioveto and Malvasia Nera to plant. More than 40 years have passed and this wine still amazes Italian and foreign fans, and the most famous wine guides worldwide. This 2016 is the product of an exceptional vintage and shows an intense ruby red that smells of plum, black cherry and sour cherry, with a twist of spices, vanilla and licorice. The mouthfeel is mellow, zesty and fresh with a nice acidity and silky tannins leading to a long fruity ending.
