Thursday, Dicember 2nd was held in Milan, at the premises of DaDa in Taverna, an event dedicated to Pinot Noir and its still and sparkling declinations in the Oltrepò Pavese lands, as interpreted by a group of producers who created the project Oltrepò Terra di Pinot Nero. The event started with an introduction curated by Filippo Bartolotta who, supported by Armando Castagno and Alessio Brandolini (the latter representing the entire group of producers), tried to trace some geographical, stylistic, productive and social Pinot Noir coordinates in this territory, whose potential has yet to be fully explored. After the introduction it was the turn of the tastings that revealed a good homogeneity in sparkling wines generally characterized, for instance, by low dosage (often completely without sugar) that does not give up immediacy and agreeability, as well as in still wines, in which the red fruit is always underlined and very precise, almost didactic. Obviously homogeneity does not mean equality and so here are the wines that have passed the tasting with the most convincing results:
►Pinot Nero Tavernetto 2018, Conte Vistarino
Round good softness wine, with a nose of fresh red fruit, custard and boisée hints, and a palate in which a tasty vegetable note of cinchona slims the sip and dynamizes it.
Rating: 93/100
►Metodo Classico Brut Collezione 2008, Cantina La Versa
Sparkling wine of great depth, one of the few with a balance of Chardonnay (15%), that combines freshness and dynamism with slightly oxidized and toasted hints; nothing exaggerated, just enough to make it really delicious.
Rating: 92/100
►Pinot Nero Poggio della Buttinera 2017, Tenuta Travaglino
The most forestal and vegetal wine, the less immediate one, even if with the right oxygenation comes out a whispered and pleasing fruit, and a hint of blood-ferrous tones.
Rating: 91/100
►Metodo Classico Extra Brut Caristoro, Giulio Fiamberti
The most mineral and vertical sparkling wine: the nose of combusted shell and chalk, as well as small red fruits, is ennobled in the mouth thanks to the incredible aftertaste coherency and the caress of a thin but incessant perlage.
Rating: 91/100
►Pinot Nero Noir 2017, Tenuta Mazzolino
Probably the Pinot Noir with the most evident ripe fruit of all: the nose of marasca cherry, black cherry grenadine and the black cherry itself in syrup, as well as a delicate hint of toffee, are hypnotic to say the least, and the sip becomes dangerously compulsive.
Rating: 90/100
►Metodo Classico Roccapietra Zero 2015, Cantina Scuropasso
Nose of ripe white fruit, Sherry Fino, full-bodied croissant and toasted hazelnut, with a textured palate; for personal taste, the most appreciated.
Rating: 90/100
►Pinot Nero Carillo 2020, Frecciarossa
►Metodo Classico Dosaggio Zero I Ger, Alessio Brandolini
By far the two Pinot Noir (one sparkling and one still) more immediate and with a winning quality/price ratio to say the least.
Rating: 89/100
