Percarlo is Fattoria San Giusto a Rentennano iconic wine. There’s a lot of work to produce it, mostly in vineyard: the vines (100% pure Sangiovese) must be carefully pruned to obtain no more than 800grams of grapes for each single plant and the harvesting is delayed to October, to obtain grapes higher concentration.
More than 3 years of ageing, between small barrels and bottle, are needed to give the right balance to this wine. However, despite its youth, this bottle shows itself already enjoyable, with a dense ruby color and a garnet edge.
In the glass this 2015 vintage smells of ripe plum, cherry, black cherry jam, licorice, garrigue and quinine, with a twist of graphite, vinyl, Mount Athos incense and Balkan Sobranie tobacco. The mouthfeel is full-bodied, lightened by fresh fruity notes and some elegant tannins which leads to a long and warm ending, with echoes of dark leather.
