Stefano Amerighi cultivated the dream of producing a great wine that respected 3 assumptions: the peasant tradition of his family, the use of biodynamic practices and his personal passion. From the fusion of these ideas, and after a careful study of the most suitable production area, comes his winery, with the intention of producing a great wine from Syrah grapes, obtained from carefully selected clones in the Rhône Valley. The property’s vineyards lie on two hills facing south-south/west in Poggiobello di Cortona, a sub-area of Cortona(probably the most famous area for the production of Italian Syrah) in the province of Arezzo.
Here the vines are cultivated following the lunar phases, with very low use of copper and sulfur and with the help of macerated preparations and natural herbal teas; without forgetting the specific biodynamic preparations such as cornosilice and cornoletame. The handpicked grapes are partly left to cluster and partly pressed with the feet then, harvested by hand in small cement tanks, they ferment spontaneously without temperature control. The wine, therefore, ages both in wood and in cement for 14 months, before being bottled without stabilization or filtration.
This 2017 vintage shows a beautiful and compact ruby red with fruity scents of dark cherry, ripe plum, blackberry and black cherry jam, followed by spicy notes of pepper grains, leather, carob and licorice root. The mouthfeel is elegant and has a perfect taste-olfactory correspondence, with a great texture and thick tannins which leads to a finish with liquorice and blood-ferrous notes.
