The Löwenstein family has a close relationship with wine production in the Winningen area, in the northernmost part of the Moselle, for about 500 years, and the winery Heymann-Löwenstein, founded in 1980, is simply the last link in this unbroken chain of 14 winegrowers generations. Although international critics have unanimously recognized, in the production of this winery, one of the most significant examples of German Riesling “Nouvelle Vague”, the air you breathe visiting the cellar or talking to the owners has an exquisitely archaic flavor. Thursday, Dicember 2nd was held in Milan, at the premises of DaDa in Taverna, an event dedicated to Pinot Noir and its still and sparkling declinations in the Oltrepò Pavese lands, as interpreted by a group of producers who created the project Oltrepò Terra di Pinot Nero. The event started with an introduction curated by Filippo Bartolotta who, supported by Armando Castagno and Alessio Brandolini (the latter representing the entire group of producers), tried to trace some geographical, stylistic, productive and social Pinot Noir coordinates in this territory, whose potential has yet to be fully explored. On Monday, November 22nd, took place in Milan, in the halls of The Westin Palace hotel, the famous Chianti Classico Collection event, a particularly prestigious appointment that allows you to get an idea of the next vintages coming out of this famous denomination, protected and promoted, since 1924, by the Chianti Classico Consortium.
The event brought to Milan more than 60 companies operating in the Chianti Classico area and many of them, in addition to the wines with that denomination, have opted to present also those that, while remaining local wines, fall under the name Toscana IGT. Just to escape this monopoly, a group of 24 small winegrowers founded, in 1893, the Cantina Sociale di Terlano, a cooperative winery that, over time, has expanded to count, today, 143 members who cultivate 190 hectares of vineyards, with the help of oenologist Rudi Kofler, and the supervision of President Georg Eyrl.
