In 1961 Dino Carletti bought the first 22 hectares of vineyards and established his cellar calling it Poliziano, in honor of the 15th century poet and humanist Angelo Ambrogini, better known in fact as Poliziano. In 1980 the winery passed from Dino to his son Federico who immediately committed itself to implement modern production techniques and strategies respectful of the environment and nature and tradition. Currently Poliziano cellars diversify its production between Cortona, Chianti and Maremma, but the focus of the business, and also the most recognized and appreciated production, is that of Nobile di Montepulciano.
Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Asinone is one of the winery top production samples. This wine was born in the Asinone South/South-West facing 12 hectares of vineyard, at 350-400 meter above sea level, lying on clay-loam soils with presence of rocks. The grapes, harvested according to a strict organic approach, are carefully hand-picked and sent to the cellar in small wooden boxes. Here, after the manual sorting of the bunches and their soft-crushing, takes place a 20-25 days fermentation at controlled temperature, in steel tanks; the following ageing involves the use of tonneaux for 16-18 months. Until now all the procedures are carried out separately, parcel by parcel, and it is just a little before the final bottling that the masses are gathered together: this operation guarantees every single lot development in the best way.
This 2016 vintage, showing a consistent ruby blood of pigeon color, smells of ripe cherry, black cherry jam, blood orange, medium-ripened tobacco, goudron, green pepper, fruity undergrowth, humus and empyreumatic notes. The mouthfeel is decidedly fresh with the slow and progressive counterpoint of consistent refined and silky tannins and, at the center of the palate, fruity and hematic scents combined with tactile spicy and balsamic sensations which leads to a very long finish.
