Domaine De Montille, established in the second half of the 17th century, is run since 1983 by Étienne de Montille, side by side with his sister Alix and Pierre Clair since by 2003. Étienne focuses more on cellar-winemaking, treasuring his father Hubert counsels, while Pierre, the vineyard manager, takes care of the vines with a biodynamic approach. Today the Domain cut all ties with fertilizers, pesticides and synthetic fungicides and applies a pragmatic organic approach respectfully of the natural cycles of the planets and phases of the moon, and in 2012 had been certified as “Ecocert Bio”. The cellar wine making still shows the influence of Hubert, who was used to produce closed long ageing wines, balanced by Étienne nouvelle vague, made of a greater aromatic expression, silkyness and freshness: in few words wines earlier drinkable but still with a great propensity to age.
In 2005 Étienne bought a 0,89 hectares vine in Vosne-Romanée appellation, in Aux Malconsort sub-area. The vine is splitted in two parcels and the northernmost (0,49 hectares) lies in an enclave nestled against the north and west borders of the legendary “La Tâche” vineyard, in a part called “the original”! This parcel, separately vinified and bottled, is called “Aux Malconsorts – Christiane ”, in honor of Hubert’s wife and Alix’s and Etienne’s mother, passed in 2008.
This bright ruby 2016 vintage smells of currant, plum jam, blackberry, red raspberry, black cherry grenadine, red orange, blood, autumn wood, thyme, with incense, lacquer, wax notes. The mouthfeel is sharp as a knife with a bright acidity and enough softness to balance the sip, and a silky depth marked by few very elegant tannins which lead to an fruity-bloody long finish.
